Scholarships and Endowments

Scholarships

The Department of Foreign Languages and Cultures is pleased to announce the scholarship forms for the 2017-18 academic school year are now available on our website and in Thompson Hall 110. The deadline for students to submit scholarship application forms is January 31 for the following academic year. New and continuing WSU students, transfer students, and study-abroad students are all eligible to apply.

Scholarship recipients and others receiving departmental recognition were honored at the annual Departmental Awards Ceremony during the WSU Mom’s Weekend on April 7, 2016.

Scholarships for Foreign Languages and Cultures students*

The department awards funds from the following established scholarships:

Frank Winfield Cobb
For undergraduate majors/minors (can be given in area studies such as Russian/Chinese).

Oscar & Muriel Holloway Ferrians Endowment
For undergraduate majors/minors or graduate students, can be used for recruitment (fund began 2000-01).

Robert & Adelle Knox
For undergraduate majors/minors or graduate students with min GPA 3.5 (can be given in area studies such as Russian/Chinese).

Arne O. Lindberg
For undergraduate majors/minors or graduate students (has been given to grad students participating in presentations/papers at conferences, etc.).

Elizabeth G. Lord
For undergraduate majors/minors in German.

Albert W. Thompson
For undergraduate Study Abroad students (*Foreign Languages major/minor not required). The scholarship awarded by nomination of advisor or department chair. Apply through IP Study Abroad Office, approved by DFLC and paid through the College of Arts and Sciences.

Kenneth H. Vanderford
For undergraduate majors/minors or graduate students, can be used for recruitment (major source of dept. scholarship funds).

Show Your Support

Show your support by contributing to the study of foreign languages and cultures and foreign language and cultures students at Washington State University.

Foreign Languages & Cultures Development Fund
These funds provide much-needed support to department and student programs and activities, growth opportunities, outreach events and programs, faculty and student travel and participation in professional conferences, and a wide range of daily necessities and operations that are not funded by the state or institution.

Foreign Languages & Cultures Special Fund
These funds support our undergrad and graduate students through stipend or scholarship. This account is building, but we hope it soon reaches a size that will allow us to make our first awards to our deserving students.
