It reflects a wide range of faculty and student involvement and highlights many of the diverse courses we offer. This semester has kept the DFLC busy as we hosted numerous events related to films, languages, cultures, performances, and more. We hope you enjoy catching up with what’s happening in the DFLC. Language Learning Resource Center (LLC)
The Language Learning Resource Center is a quiet place for students to come in and study. The center offers multiple computers, printing and scanners. Read more
Chinese
Since early September, Dr. Xinmin Liu has been a visiting scholar at the Center for Chinese Studies (CCS) of the Taiwan National Central Library in Taipei. Read more
Spanish
Dr. Michael Hubert published a peer-reviewed article this year entitled, “Using Writing to Teach Pronunciation: An Experimental Fourth-Year University Spanish Phonetics/Phonology Course.” This article will appear in an upcoming issue of the Defense Language Institute’s Applied Language Learning journal. In May 2016, Clinical Associate Professor Sabine Davis attended a five day workshop co-organized by the University of Wyoming and the Paris Chamber of Commerce on Teaching French for Business. Read more
German
This Summer, our friend and colleague, Dr. Rachel Halverson accepted a position as the Modern Languages and Cultures’ Department Chair at the University of Idaho. Read more
Russian
The Department of Foreign Languages and Cultures offers an one year introduction to Russian Language. Read more
Japanese
On November 4, we welcomed Katsura Sunshine, a Rakugo performer. Rakugo translates to “fallen words” a form of Japanese verbal entertainment. Read more
Korean
The course Introduction to Korean language introduces students to the basic language learning skills, alphabets, short dialogue, narrative texts, conversation, grammatical patterns, and short essay writing. Read more
Italian
The Department of Foreign Languages and Cultures offers two sections of Italian, one each semester. Read more
Arabic
Instructor Manal Shaheen taught first semester of Arabic this semester. The course is proficiency based, covering all four language skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing). Read more
Film & Global Studies
The Department of Foreign Languages and Cultures offers a Film Studies minor. This minor introduces students to the critical study of cinema and media. Read more

An enthusiastic WSU Tri-Cities community came together to commemorate family, friends, and icons of the Latin-American culture for El Día De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Read more
